Philippians 1

1	Paulus et Timotheus, servi Jesu Christi, omnibus sanctis in Christo Jesu, qui sunt Philippis, cum episcopis et diaconibus.	Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ; to all the saints in Christ Jesus, who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.
2	Gratia vobis, et pax a Deo Patre nostro, et Domino Jesu Christo.	Grace be unto you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3	Gratias ago Deo meo in omni memoria vestri,	I give thanks to my God in every remembrance of you,
4	semper in cunctis orationibus meis pro omnibus vobis, cum gaudio deprecationem faciens,	Always in all my prayers making supplication for you all, with joy;
5	super communicatione vestra in Evangelio Christi a prima die usque nunc.	For your communication in the gospel of Christ from the first day until now.
6	Confidens hoc ipsum, quia qui cœpit in vobis opus bonum, perficiet usque in diem Christi Jesu :	Being confident of this very thing, that he, who hath begun a good work in you, will perfect it unto the day of Christ Jesus.
7	sicut est mihi justum hoc sentire pro omnibus vobis : eo quod habeam vos in corde, et in vinculis meis, et in defensione, et confirmatione Evangelii, socios gaudii mei omnes vos esse.	As it is meet for me to think this for you all, for that I have you in my heart; and that in my bands, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of my joy.
8	Testis enim mihi est Deus, quomodo cupiam omnes vos in visceribus Jesu Christi.	For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
9	Et hoc oro, ut caritas vestra magis ac magis abundet in scientia, et in omni sensu :	And this I pray, that your charity may more and more abound in knowledge, and in all understanding:
10	ut probetis potiora, ut sitis sinceri, et sine offensa in diem Christi,	That you may approve the better things, that you may be sincere and without offence unto the day of Christ,
11	repleti fructu justitiæ per Jesum Christum, in gloriam et laudem Dei.	Filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
12	Scire autem vos volo fratres, quia quæ circa me sunt, magis ad profectum venerunt Evangelii :	Now, brethren, I desire you should know, that the things which have happened to me, have fallen out rather to the furtherance of the gospel:
13	ita ut vincula mea manifesta fierent in Christo in omni prætorio, et in ceteris omnibus,	So that my bands are made manifest in Christ, in all the court, and in all other places;
14	et plures e fratribus in Domino confidentes vinculis meis, abundantius auderent sine timore verbum Dei loqui.	And many of the brethren in the Lord, growing confident by my bands, are much more bold to speak the word of God without fear.
15	Quidam quidem et propter invidiam et contentionem : quidam autem et propter bonam voluntatem Christum prædicant :	Some indeed, even out of envy and contention; but some also for good will preach Christ.
16	quidam ex caritate, scientes quoniam in defensionem Evangelii positus sum.	Some out of charity, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
17	Quidam autem ex contentione Christum annuntiant non sincere, existimantes pressuram se suscitare vinculis meis.	And some out of contention preach Christ not sincerely: supposing that they raise affliction to my bands.
18	Quid enim ? Dum omni modo sive per occasionem, sive per veritatem, Christus annuntietur : et in hoc gaudeo, sed et gaudebo.	But what then? So that by all means, whether by occasion, or by truth, Christ be preached: in this also I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
19	Scio enim quia hoc mihi proveniet ad salutem, per vestram orationem, et subministrationem Spiritus Jesu Christi,	For I know that this shall fall out to me unto salvation, through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20	secundum exspectationem et spem meam, quia in nullo confundar : sed in omni fiducia sicut semper, et nunc magnificabitur Christus in corpore meo, sive per vitam, sive per mortem.	According to my expectation and hope; that in nothing I shall be confounded, but with all confidence, as always, so now also shall Christ be magnified in my body, wither it be by life, or by death.
21	Mihi enim vivere Christus est, et mori lucrum.	For to me, to live is Christ; and to die is gain.
22	Quod si vivere in carne, hic mihi fructus operis est, et quid eligam ignoro.	And if to live in the flesh, that is to me the fruit of labour, and what I shall choose I know not.
23	Coarctor autem e duobus : desiderium habens dissolvi, et esse cum Christo, multo magis melius :	But I am straitened between two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, a thing by far the better.
24	permanere autem in carne, necessarium propter vos.	But to abide still in the flesh, is needful for you.
25	Et hoc confidens scio quia manebo, et permanebo omnibus vobis ad profectum vestrum, et gaudium fidei :	And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide, and continue with you all, for your furtherance and joy of faith:
26	ut gratulatio vestra abundet in Christo Jesu in me, per meum adventum iterum ad vos.	That your rejoicing may abound in Christ Jesus for me, by my coming to you again.
27	Tantum digne Evangelio Christi conversamini : ut sive cum venero, et videro vos, sive absens audiam de vobis, quia statis in uno spiritu unanimes, collaborantes fidei Evangelii :	Only let your conversation be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you, or, being absent, may hear of you, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind labouring together for the faith of the gospel.
28	et in nullo terreamini ab adversariis : quæ illis est causa perditionis, vobis autem salutis, et hoc a Deo :	And in nothing be ye terrified by the adversaries: which to them is a cause of perdition, but to you of salvation, and this from God:
29	quia vobis donatum est pro Christo, non solum ut in eum credatis, sed ut etiam pro illo patiamini :	For unto you it is given for Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him.
30	idem certamen habentes, quale et vidistis in me, et nunc audistis de me.	Having the same conflict as that which you have seen in me, and now have heard of me.

Philippians 2

1	Si qua ergo consolatio in Christo, si quod solatium caritatis, si qua societas spiritus, si qua viscera miserationis :	If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of charity, if any society of the spirit, if any bowels of commiseration:
2	implete gaudium meum ut idem sapiatis, eamdem caritatem habentes, unanimes, idipsum sentientes,	Fulfil ye my joy, that you may be of one mind, having the same charity, being of one accord, agreeing in sentiment.
3	nihil per contentionem, neque per inanem gloriam : sed in humilitate superiores sibi invicem arbitrantes,	Let nothing be done through contention, neither by vain glory: but in humility, let each esteem others better than themselves:
4	non quæ sua sunt singuli considerantes, sed ea quæ aliorum.	Each one not considering the things that are his own, but those that are other men’s.
5	Hoc enim sentite in vobis, quod et in Christo Jesu :	For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6	qui cum in forma Dei esset, non rapinam arbitratus est esse se æqualem Deo :	Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7	sed semetipsum exinanivit, formam servi accipiens, in similitudinem hominum factus, et habitu inventus ut homo.	But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man.
8	Humiliavit semetipsum factus obediens usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis.	He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross.
9	Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum, et donavit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen :	For which cause God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above all names:
10	ut in nomine Jesu omne genu flectatur cælestium, terrestrium et infernorum,	That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth:
11	et omnis lingua confiteatur, quia Dominus Jesus Christus in gloria est Dei Patris.	And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.
12	Itaque carissimi mei (sicut semper obedistis), non ut in præsentia mei tantum, sed multo magis nunc in absentia mea, cum metu et tremore vestram salutem operamini.	Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but much more now in my absence,) with fear and trembling work out your salvation.
13	Deus est enim, qui operatur in vobis et velle, et perficere pro bona voluntate.	For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to accomplish, according to his good will.
14	Omnia autem facite sine murmurationibus et hæsitationibus :	And do ye all things without murmurings and hesitations;
15	ut sitis sine querela, et simplices filii Dei, sine reprehensione in medio nationis pravæ et perversæ : inter quos lucetis sicut luminaria in mundo,	That you may be blameless, and sincere children of God, without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom you shine as lights in the world.
16	verbum vitæ continentes ad gloriam meam in die Christi, quia non in vacuum cucurri, neque in vacuum laboravi.	Holding forth the word of life to my glory in the day of Christ, because I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain.
17	Sed et si immolor supra sacrificium, et obsequium fidei vestræ, gaudeo, et congratulor omnibus vobis.	Yea, and if I be made a victim upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice, and congratulate with you all.
18	Idipsum autem et vos gaudete, et congratulamini mihi.	And for the selfsame thing do you also rejoice, and congratulate with me.
19	Spero autem in Domino Jesu, Timotheum me cito mittere ad vos : ut et ego bono animo sim, cognitis quæ circa vos sunt.	And I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy unto you shortly, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know the things concerning you.
20	Neminem enim habeo tam unanimem, qui sincera affectione pro vobis sollicitus sit.	For I have no man so of the same mind, who with sincere affection is solicitous for you.
21	Omnes enim quæ sua sunt quærunt, non quæ sunt Jesu Christi.	For all seek the things that are their own; not the things that are Jesus Christ’s.
22	Experimentum autem ejus cognoscite, quia sicut patri filius, mecum servivit in Evangelio.	Now know ye the proof of him, that as a son with the father, so hath he served with me in the gospel.
23	Hunc igitur spero me mittere ad vos, mox ut videro quæ circa me sunt.	Him therefore I hope to send unto you immediately, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
24	Confido autem in Domino quoniam et ipse veniam ad vos cito.	And I trust in the Lord, that I myself also shall come to you shortly.
25	Necessarium autem existimavi Epaphroditum fratrem, et cooperatorem, et commilitonem meum, vestrum autem apostolum, et ministrum necessitatis meæ, mittere ad vos :	But I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow labourer, and fellow soldier, but your apostle, and he that hath ministered to my wants.
26	quoniam quidem omnes vos desiderabat : et mœstus erat, propterea quod audieratis illum infirmatum.	For indeed he longed after you all: and was sad, for that you had heard that he was sick.
27	Nam et infirmatus est usque ad mortem : sed Deus misertus est ejus : non solum autem ejus, verum etiam et mei, ne tristitiam super tristitiam haberem.	For indeed he was sick, nigh unto death; but God had mercy on him; and not only on him, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
28	Festinantius ergo misi illum, ut viso eo iterum gaudeatis, et ego sine tristitia sim.	Therefore I sent him the more speedily: that seeing him again, you may rejoice, and I may be without sorrow.
29	Excipite itaque illum cum omni gaudio in Domino, et ejusmodi cum honore habetote ;	Receive him therefore with all joy in the Lord; and treat with honour such as he is.
30	quoniam propter opus Christi usque ad mortem accessit, tradens animam suam ut impleret id quod ex vobis deerat erga meum obsequium.	Because for the work of Christ he came to the point of death: delivering his life, that he might fulfil that which on your part was wanting towards my service.

Philippians 3

1	De cetero, fratres mei, gaudete in Domino. Eadem vobis scribere, mihi quidem non pigrum, vobis autem necessarium.	As to the rest, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not wearisome, but to you it is necessary.
2	Videte canes, videte malos operarios, videte concisionem.	Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
3	Nos enim sumus circumcisio, qui spiritu servimus Deo, et gloriamur in Christo Jesu, et non in carne fiduciam habentes,	For we are the circumcision, who in spirit serve God; and glory in Christ Jesus, not having confidence in the flesh.
4	quamquam ego habeam confidentiam et in carne. Si quis alius videtur confidere in carne, ego magis,	Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other thinketh he may have confidence in the flesh, I more,
5	circumcisus octavo die, ex genere Israël, de tribu Benjamin, Hebræus ex Hebræis, secundum legem pharisæus,	Being circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; according to the law, a Pharisee:
6	secundum æmulationem persequens Ecclesiam Dei, secundum justitiam, quæ in lege est, conversatus sine querela.	According to zeal, persecuting the church of God; according to the justice that is in the law, conversing without blame.
7	Sed quæ mihi fuerunt lucra, hæc arbitratus sum propter Christum detrimenta.	But the things that were gain to me, the same I have counted loss for Christ.
8	Verumtamen existimo omnia detrimentum esse propter eminentem scientiam Jesu Christi Domini mei : propter quem omnia detrimentum feci, et arbitror ut stercora, ut Christum lucrifaciam,	Furthermore I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ:
9	et inveniar in illo non habens meam justitiam, quæ ex lege est, sed illam, quæ ex fide est Christi Jesu : quæ ex Deo est justitia in fide,	And may be found in him, not having my justice, which is of the law, but that which is of the faith of Christ Jesus, which is of God, justice in faith:
10	ad cognoscendum illum, et virtutem resurrectionis ejus, et societatem passionum illius : configuratus morti ejus :	That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death,
11	si quo modo occurram ad resurrectionem, quæ est ex mortuis :	If by any means I may attain to the resurrection which is from the dead.
12	non quod jam acceperim, aut jam perfectus sim : sequor autem, si quomodo comprehendam in quo et comprehensus sum a Christo Jesu.	Not as though I has already attained, or were already perfect; but I follow after, if I may by any means apprehend, wherein I am also apprehended by Christ Jesus.
13	Fratres, ego me non arbitror comprehendisse. Unum autem, quæ quidem retro sunt obliviscens, ad ea vero quæ sunt priora, extendens meipsum,	Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do: forgetting the things that are behind, and stretching forth myself to those that are before,
14	ad destinatum persequor, ad bravium supernæ vocationis Dei in Christo Jesu.	I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ Jesus.
15	Quicumque ergo perfecti sumus, hoc sentiamus : et si quid aliter sapitis, et hoc vobis Deus revelabit.	Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded; and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you.
16	Verumtamen ad quod pervenimus ut idem sapiamus, et in eadem permaneamus regula.	Nevertheless whereunto we are come, that we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule.
17	Imitatores mei estote, fratres, et observate eos qui ita ambulant, sicut habetis formam nostram.	Be ye followers of me, brethren, and observe them who walk so as you have our model.
18	Multi enim ambulant, quos sæpe dicebam vobis (nunc autem et flens dico) inimicos crucis Christi :	For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping), that they are enemies of the cross of Christ;
19	quorum finis interitus : quorum Deus venter est : et gloria in confusione ipsorum, qui terrena sapiunt.	Whose end is destruction; whose God is their belly; and whose glory is in their shame; who mind earthly things.
20	Nostra autem conversatio in cælis est : unde etiam Salvatorem exspectamus Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum,	But our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ,
21	qui reformabit corpus humilitatis nostræ, configuratum corpori claritatis suæ, secundum operationem, qua etiam possit subjicere sibi omnia.	Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.

Philippians 4

1	Itaque fratres mei carissimi, et desideratissimi, gaudium meum, et corona mea : sic state in Domino, carissimi.	Therefore, my dearly beloved brethren, and most desired, my joy and my crown; so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
2	Evodiam rogo, et Syntychen deprecor, idipsum sapere in Domino.	I beg of Evodia, and I beseech Syntyche, to be of one mind in the Lord.
3	Etiam rogo et te, germane compar, adjuva illas, quæ mecum laboraverunt in Evangelio cum Clemente, et ceteris adjutoribus meis, quorum nomina sunt in libro vitæ.	And I entreat thee also, my sincere companion, help those women who have laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement and the rest of my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.
4	Gaudete in Domino semper : iterum dico gaudete.	Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I say, rejoice.
5	Modestia vestra nota sit omnibus hominibus : Dominus prope est.	Let your modesty be known to all men. The Lord is nigh.
6	Nihil solliciti sitis : sed in omni oratione, et obsecratione, cum gratiarum actione petitiones vestræ innotescant apud Deum.	Be nothing solicitous; but in every thing, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God.
7	Et pax Dei, quæ exuperat omnem sensum, custodiat corda vestra, et intelligentias vestras in Christo Jesu.	And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
8	De cetero fratres, quæcumque sunt vera, quæcumque pudica, quæcumque justa, quæcumque sancta, quæcumque amabilia, quæcumque bonæ famæ, siqua virtus, siqua laus disciplinæ, hæc cogitate.	For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever modest, whatsoever just, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely, whatsoever of good fame, if there be any virtue, if any praise of discipline, think on these things.
9	Quæ et didicistis, et accepistis, et audistis, et vidistis in me, hæc agite : et Deus pacis erit vobiscum.	The things which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, these do ye, and the God of peace shall be with you.
10	Gavisus sum autem in Domino vehementer, quoniam tandem aliquando refloruistis pro me sentire, sicut et sentiebatis : occupati autem eratis.	Now I rejoice in the Lord exceedingly, that now at length your thought for me hath flourished again, as you did also think; but you were busied.
11	Non quasi propter penuriam dico : ego enim didici, in quibus sum, sufficiens esse.	I speak not as it were for want. For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, to be content therewith.
12	Scio et humiliari, scio et abundare (ubique et in omnibus institutus sum) : et satiari, et esurire, et abundare, et penuriam pati.	I know both how to be brought low, and I know how to abound: (everywhere, and in all things I am instructed) both to be full, and to be hungry; both to abound, and to suffer need.
13	Omnia possum in eo qui me confortat.	I can do all these things in him who strengtheneth me.
14	Verumtamen bene fecistis, communicantes tribulationi meæ.	Nevertheless you have done well in communicating to my tribulation.
15	Scitis autem et vos Philippenses, quod in principio Evangelii, quando profectus sum a Macedonia, nulla mihi ecclesia communicavit in ratione dati et accepti, nisi vos soli :	And you also know, O Philippians, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but you only:
16	quia et Thessalonicam semel et bis in usum mihi misistis.	For unto Thessalonica also you sent once and again for my use.
17	Non quia quæro datum, sed requiro fructum abundantem in ratione vestra.	Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that may abound to your account.
18	Habeo autem omnia, et abundo : repletus sum, acceptis ab Epaphrodito quæ misistis odorem suavitatis, hostiam acceptam, placentem Deo.	But I have all, and abound: I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things you sent, an odour of sweetness, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
19	Deus autem meus impleat omne desiderium vestrum secundum divitias suas in gloria in Christo Jesu.	And may my God supply all your want, according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
20	Deo autem et Patri nostro gloria in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.	Now to God and our Father be glory world without end. Amen.
21	Salutate omnem sanctum in Christo Jesu.	Salute ye every saint in Christ Jesus.
22	Salutant vos, qui mecum sunt, fratres. Salutant vos omnes sancti, maxime autem qui de Cæsaris domo sunt.	The brethren who are with me, salute you. All the saints salute you; especially they that are of Caesar’s household.
23	Gratia Domini nostri Jesu Christi cum spiritu vestro. Amen.	The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
