Grace be to you, and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. |

Benedictus Deus et Pater Domini nostri Jesu Christi, qui benedixit nos in omni benedictione spirituali in cælestibus in Christo, |
Blessed by the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with spiritual blessings in heavenly places, in Christ: |

sicut elegit nos in ipso ante mundi constitutionem, ut essemus sancti et immaculati in conspectu ejus in caritate. |
As he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and unspotted in his sight in charity. |
| 5 |
Qui prædestinavit nos in adoptionem filiorum per Jesum Christum in ipsum : secundum propositum voluntatis suæ, |
Who hath predestinated us unto the adoption of children through Jesus Christ unto himself: according to the purpose of his will: |
| 6 |
in laudem gloriæ gratiæ suæ, in qua gratificavit nos in dilecto Filio suo. |
Unto the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he hath graced us in his beloved son. |
| 7 |
In quo habemus redemptionem per sanguinem ejus, remissionem peccatorum secundum divitias gratiæ ejus, |
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins, according to the riches of his grace, |
| 8 |
quæ superabundavit in nobis in omni sapientia et prudentia : |
Which hath superabounded in us in all wisdom and prudence, |
| 9 |
ut notum faceret nobis sacramentum voluntatis suæ, secundum beneplacitum ejus, quod proposuit in eo, |
That he might make known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure, which he hath purposed in him, |
| 10 |
in dispensatione plenitudinis temporum, instaurare omnia in Christo, quæ in cælis et quæ in terra sunt, in ipso ; |
In the dispensation of the fulness of times, to re-establish all things in Christ, that are in heaven and on earth, in him. |
| 11 |
in quo etiam et nos sorte vocati sumus prædestinati secundum propositum ejus qui operatur omnia secundum consilium voluntatis suæ : |
In whom we also are called by lot, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things according to the counsel of his will. |

ut simus in laudem gloriæ ejus nos, qui ante speravimus in Christo ; |
That we may be unto the praise of his glory, we who before hoped Christ: |
| 13 |
in quo et vos, cum audissetis verbum veritatis, Evangelium salutis vestræ, in quo et credentes signati estis Spiritu promissionis Sancto, |
In whom you also, after you had heard the word of truth, (the gospel of your salvation;) in whom also believing, you were signed with the holy Spirit of promise, |

qui est pignus hæreditatis nostræ, in redemptionem acquisitionis, in laudem gloriæ ipsius. |
Who is the pledge of our inheritance, unto the redemption of acquisition, unto the praise of his glory. |

Propterea et ego audiens fidem vestram, quæ est in Domino Jesu, et dilectionem in omnes sanctos, |
Wherefore I also, hearing of your faith that is in the Lord Jesus, and of your love towards all the saints, |
| 16 |
non cesso gratias agens pro vobis, memoriam vestri faciens in orationibus meis : |
Cease not to give thanks for you, making commemoration of you in my prayers, |
| 17 |
ut Deus Domini nostri Jesu Christi, Pater gloriæ, det vobis spiritum sapientiæ et revelationis in agnitione ejus, |
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and of revelation, in the knowledge of him: |
| 18 |
illuminatos oculos cordis vestri, ut sciatis quæ sit spes vocationis ejus, et quæ divitiæ gloriæ hæreditatis ejus in sanctis, |
The eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what the hope is of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. |
| 19 |
et quæ sit supereminens magnitudo virtutis ejus in nos, qui credimus secundum operationem potentiæ virtutis ejus, |
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power towards us, who believe according to the operation of the might of his power, |
| 20 |
quam operatus est in Christo, suscitans illum a mortuis, et constituens ad dexteram suam in cælestibus : |
Which he wrought in Christ, raising him up from the dead, and setting him on his right hand in the heavenly places. |
| 21 |
supra omnem principatum, et potestatem, et virtutem, et dominationem, et omne nomen, quod nominatur non solum in hoc sæculo, sed etiam in futuro. |
Above all principality, and power, and virtue, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. |
| 22 |
Et omnia subjecit sub pedibus ejus : et ipsum dedit caput supra omnem ecclesiam, |
And he hath subjected all things under his feet, and hath made him head over all the church, |
| 23 |
quæ est corpus ipsius, et plenitudo ejus, qui omnia in omnibus adimpletur. |
Which is his body, and the fulness of him who is filled all in all. |

Et vos, cum essetis mortui delictis et peccatis vestris, |
And you, when you were dead in your offences, and sins, |
| 2 |
in quibus aliquando ambulastis secundum sæculum mundi hujus, secundum principem potestatis aëris hujus, spiritus, qui nunc operatur in filios diffidentiæ, |
Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of this air, of the spirit that now worketh on the children of unbelief: |

in quibus et nos omnes aliquando conversati sumus in desideriis carnis nostræ, facientes voluntatem carnis et cogitationum, et eramus natura filii iræ, sicut et ceteri : |
In which also we all conversed in time past, in the desires of our flesh, fulfilling the will of the flesh and of our thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest: |

Deus autem, qui dives est in misericordia, propter nimiam caritatem suam, qua dilexit nos, |
But God, (who is rich in mercy,) for his exceeding charity wherewith he loved us, |
| 5 |
et cum essemus mortui peccatis, convivificavit nos in Christo (cujus gratia estis salvati), |
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together in Christ, (by whose grace you are saved,) |
| 6 |
et conresuscitavit, et consedere fecit in cælestibus in Christo Jesu : |
And hath raised us up together, and hath made us sit together in the heavenly places, through Christ Jesus. |
| 7 |
ut ostenderet in sæculis supervenientibus abundantes divitias gratiæ suæ, in bonitate super nos in Christo Jesu. |
That he might shew in the ages to come the abundant riches of his grace, in his bounty towards us in Christ Jesus. |
| 8 |
Gratia enim estis salvati per fidem, et hoc non ex vobis : Dei enim donum est : |
For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God; |
| 9 |
non ex operibus, ut ne quis glorietur. |
Not of works, that no man may glory. |
| 10 |
Ipsius enim sumus factura, creati in Christo Jesu in operibus bonis, quæ præparavit Deus ut in illis ambulemus. |
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus in good works, which God hath prepared that we should walk in them. |

Propter quod memores estote quod aliquando vos gentes in carne, qui dicimini præputium ab ea quæ dicitur circumcisio in carne, manu facta : |
For which cause be mindful that you, being heretofore Gentiles in the flesh, who are called uncircumcision by that which is called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands; |

quia eratis illo in tempore sine Christo, alienati a conversatione Israël, et hospites testamentorum, promissionis spem non habentes, et sine Deo in hoc mundo. |
That you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the conversation of Israel, and strangers to the testament, having no hope of the promise, and without God in this world. |

Nunc autem in Christo Jesu, vos, qui aliquando eratis longe, facti estis prope in sanguine Christi. |
But now in Christ Jesus, you, who some time were afar off, are made nigh by the blood of Christ. |
| 14 |
Ipse enim est pax nostra, qui fecit utraque unum, et medium parietem maceriæ solvens, inimicitias in carne sua, |
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and breaking down the middle wall of partition, the enmities in his flesh: |
| 15 |
legem mandatorum decretis evacuans, ut duos condat in semetipso in unum novum hominem, faciens pacem : |
Making void the law of commandments contained in decrees; that he might make the two in himself into one new man, making peace; |
| 16 |
et reconciliet ambos in uno corpore, Deo per crucem, interficiens inimicitias in semetipso. |
And might reconcile both to God in one body by the cross, killing the enmities in himself. |
| 17 |
Et veniens evangelizavit pacem vobis, qui longe fuistis, et pacem iis, qui prope. |
And coming, he preached peace to you that were afar off, and peace to them that were nigh. |
| 18 |
Quoniam per ipsum habemus accessum ambo in uno Spiritu ad Patrem. |
For by him we have access both in one Spirit to the Father. |
| 19 |
Ergo jam non estis hospites, et advenæ : sed estis cives sanctorum, et domestici Dei, |
Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners; but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and the domestics of God, |
| 20 |
superædificati super fundamentum apostolorum, et prophetarum, ipso summo angulari lapide Christo Jesu : |
Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone: |
| 21 |
in quo omnis ædificatio constructa crescit in templum sanctum in Domino, |
In whom all the building, being framed together, groweth up into an holy temple in the Lord. |
| 22 |
in quo et vos coædificamini in habitaculum Dei in Spiritu. |
In whom you also are built together into an habitation of God in the Spirit. |

Hujus rei gratia, ego Paulus vinctus Christi Jesu, pro vobis gentibus, |
For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ, for you Gentiles; |
| 2 |
si tamen audistis dispensationem gratiæ Dei, quæ data est mihi in vobis : |
If yet you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you: |
| 3 |
quoniam secundum revelationem notum mihi factum est sacramentum, sicut supra scripsi in brevi, |
How that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me, as I have written above in a few words; |
| 4 |
prout potestis legentes intelligere prudentiam meam in mysterio Christi : |
As you reading, may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ, |
| 5 |
quod aliis generationibus non est agnitum filiis hominum, sicuti nunc revelatum est sanctis apostolis ejus et prophetis in Spiritu, |
Which in other generations was not known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit: |
| 6 |
gentes esse cohæredes, et concorporales, et comparticipes promissionis ejus in Christo Jesu per Evangelium : |
That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and co-partners of his promise in Christ Jesus, by the gospel: |
| 7 |
cujus factus sum minister secundum donum gratiæ Dei, quæ data est mihi secundum operationem virtutis ejus. |
Of which I am made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God, which is given to me according to the operation of his power: |
| 8 |
Mihi omnium sanctorum minimo data est gratia hæc, in gentibus evangelizare investigabiles divitias Christi, |
To me, the least of all the saints, is given this grace, to preach among the Gentiles, the unsearchable riches of Christ, |
| 9 |
et illuminare omnes, quæ sit dispensatio sacramenti absconditi a sæculis in Deo, qui omnia creavit : |
And to enlighten all men, that they may see what is the dispensation of the mystery which hath been hidden from eternity in God, who created all things: |
| 10 |
ut innotescat principatibus et potestatibus in cælestibus per Ecclesiam, multiformis sapientia Dei, |
That the manifold wisdom of God may be made known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church, |
| 11 |
secundum præfinitionem sæculorum, quam fecit in Christo Jesu Domino nostro : |
According to the eternal purpose, which he made, in Christ Jesus our Lord: |
| 12 |
in quo habemus fiduciam, et accessum in confidentia per fidem ejus. |
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. |
| 13 |
Propter quod peto ne deficiatis in tribulationibus meis pro vobis : quæ est gloria vestra. |
Wherefore I pray you not to faint at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. |
| 14 |
Hujus rei gratia flecto genua mea ad Patrem Domini nostri Jesu Christi, |
For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, |
| 15 |
ex quo omnis paternitas in cælis et in terra nominatur, |
Of whom all paternity in heaven and earth is named, |
| 16 |
ut det vobis secundum divitias gloriæ suæ, virtute corroborari per Spiritum ejus in interiorem hominem, |
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened by his Spirit with might unto the inward man, |
| 17 |
Christum habitare per fidem in cordibus vestris : in caritate radicati, et fundati, |
That Christ may dwell by faith in your hearts; that being rooted and founded in charity, |
| 18 |
ut possitis comprehendere cum omnibus sanctis, quæ sit latitudo, et longitudo, et sublimitas, et profundum : |
You may be able to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and height, and depth: |
| 19 |
scire etiam supereminentem scientiæ caritatem Christi, ut impleamini in omnem plenitudinem Dei. |
To know also the charity of Christ, which surpasseth all knowledge, that you may be filled unto all the fulness of God. |
| 20 |
Ei autem, qui potens est omnia facere superabundanter quam petimus aut intelligimus, secundum virtutem, quæ operatur in nobis : |
Now to him who is able to do all things more abundantly than we desire or understand, according to the power that worketh in us; |
| 21 |
ipsi gloria in Ecclesia, et in Christo Jesu, in omnes generationes sæculi sæculorum. Amen. |
To him be glory in the church, and in Christ Jesus unto all generations, world without end. Amen. |

Obsecro itaque vos ego vinctus in Domino, ut digne ambuletis vocatione, qua vocati estis, |
I therefore, a prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation in which you are called, |

cum omni humilitate, et mansuetudine, cum patientia, supportantes invicem in caritate, |
With all humility and mildness, with patience, supporting one another in charity. |
| 3 |
solliciti servare unitatem Spiritus in vinculo pacis. |
Careful to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. |
| 4 |
Unum corpus, et unus Spiritus, sicut vocati estis in una spe vocationis vestræ. |
One body and one Spirit; as you are called in one hope of your calling. |
| 5 |
Unus Dominus, una fides, unum baptisma. |
One Lord, one faith, one baptism. |
| 6 |
Unus Deus et Pater omnium, qui est super omnes, et per omnia, et in omnibus nobis. |
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in us all. |
| 7 |
Unicuique autem nostrum data est gratia secundum mensuram donationis Christi. |
But to every one of us is given grace, according to the measure of the giving of Christ. |
| 8 |
Propter quod dicit : Ascendens in altum, captivam duxit captivitatem : dedit dona hominibus. |
Wherefore he saith: Ascending on high, he led captivity captive; he gave gifts to men. |
| 9 |
Quod autem ascendit, quid est, nisi quia et descendit primum in inferiores partes terræ ? |
Now that he ascended, what is it, but because he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? |
| 10 |
Qui descendit, ipse est et qui ascendit super omnes cælos, ut impleret omnia. |
He that descended is the same also that ascended above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. |
| 11 |
Et ipse dedit quosdam quidem apostolos, quosdam autem prophetas, alios vero evangelistas, alios autem pastores et doctores, |
And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and other some evangelists, and other some pastors and doctors, |
| 12 |
ad consummationem sanctorum in opus ministerii, in ædificationem corporis Christi : |
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: |
| 13 |
donec occurramus omnes in unitatem fidei, et agnitionis Filii Dei, in virum perfectum, in mensuram ætatis plenitudinis Christi : |
Until we all meet into the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the age of the fulness of Christ; |

ut jam non simus parvuli fluctuantes, et circumferamur omni vento doctrinæ in nequitia hominum, in astutia ad circumventionem erroris. |
That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive |

Veritatem autem facientes in caritate, crescamus in illo per omnia, qui est caput Christus : |
But doing the truth in charity, we may in all things grow up in him who is the head, even Christ: |
| 16 |
ex quo totum corpus compactum et connexum per omnem juncturam subministrationis, secundum operationem in mensuram uniuscujusque membri, augmentum corporis facit in ædificationem sui in caritate. |
From whom the whole body, being compacted and fitly joined together, by what every joint supplieth, according to the operation in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body, unto the edifying of itself in charity. |

Hoc igitur dico, et testificor in Domino, ut jam non ambuletis, sicut et gentes ambulant in vanitate sensus sui, |
This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind, |

tenebris obscuratum habentes intellectum, alienati a vita Dei per ignorantiam, quæ est in illis, propter cæcitatem cordis ipsorum, |
Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts. |
| 19 |
qui desperantes, semetipsos tradiderunt impudicitiæ, in operationem immunditiæ omnis in avaritiam. |
Who despairing, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto covetousness. |
| 20 |
Vos autem non ita didicistis Christum, |
But you have not so learned Christ; |
| 21 |
si tamen illum audistis, et in ipso edocti estis, sicut est veritas in Jesu, |
If so be that you have heard him, and have been taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus: |
| 22 |
deponere vos secundum pristinam conversationem veterem hominem, qui corrumpitur secundum desideria erroris. |
To put off, according to former conversation, the old man, who is corrupted according to the desire of error. |
| 23 |
Renovamini autem spiritu mentis vestræ, |
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind: |
| 24 |
et induite novum hominem, qui secundum Deum creatus est in justitia, et sanctitate veritatis. |
And put on the new man, who according to God is created in justice and holiness of truth. |
| 25 |
Propter quod deponentes mendacium, loquimini veritatem unusquisque cum proximo suo : quoniam sumus invicem membra. |
Wherefore putting away lying, speak ;ye the truth every man with his neighbour; for we are members one of another. |
| 26 |
Irascimini, et nolite peccare : sol non occidat super iracundiam vestram. |
Be angry, and sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your anger. |
| 27 |
Nolite locum dare diabolo : |
Give not place to the devil. |
| 28 |
qui furabatur, jam non furetur : magis autem laboret, operando manibus suis, quod bonum est, ut habeat unde tribuat necessitatem patienti. |
He that stole, let him now steal no more; but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have something to give to him that suffereth need. |
| 29 |
Omnis sermo malus ex ore vestro non procedat : sed si quis bonus ad ædificationem fidei ut det gratiam audientibus. |
Let no evil speech proceed from your mouth; but that which is good, to the edification of faith, that it may administer grace to the hearers. |
| 30 |
Et nolite constristare Spiritum Sanctum Dei : in quo signati estis in diem redemptionis. |
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God: whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption. |
| 31 |
Omnis amaritudo, et ira, et indignatio, et clamor, et blasphemia tollatur a vobis cum omni malitia. |
Let all bitterness, and anger, and indignation, and clamour, and blasphemy, be put away from you, with all malice. |
| 32 |
Estote autem invicem benigni, misericordes, donantes invicem sicut et Deus in Christo donavit vobis. |
And be ye kind one to another; merciful, forgiving one another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ. |

Estote ergo imitatores Dei, sicut filii carissimi, |
Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children; |
| 2 |
et ambulate in dilectione, sicut et Christus dilexit nos, et tradidit semetipsum pro nobis, oblationem et hostiam Deo in odorem suavitatis. |
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness. |

Fornicatio autem, et omnis immunditia, aut avaritia, nec nominetur in vobis, sicut decet sanctos : |
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints: |
| 4 |
aut turpitudo, aut stultiloquium, aut scurrilitas, quæ ad rem non pertinet : sed magis gratiarum actio. |
Or obscenity, or foolish talking, or scurrility, which is to no purpose; but rather giving of thanks. |
| 5 |
Hoc enim scitote intelligentes : quod omnis fornicator, aut immundus, aut avarus, quod est idolorum servitus, non habet hæreditatem in regno Christi et Dei. |
For know you this and understand, that no fornicator, or unclean, or covetous person (which is a serving of idols), hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. |

Nemo vos seducat inanibus verbis : propter hæc enim venit ira Dei in filios diffidentiæ. |
Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief. |
| 7 |
Nolite ergo effici participes eorum. |
Be ye not therefore partakers with them. |
| 8 |
Eratis enim aliquando tenebræ : nunc autem lux in Domino. Ut filii lucis ambulate : |
For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light. |
| 9 |
fructus enim lucis est in omni bonitate, et justitia, et veritate : |
For the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and justice, and truth; |
| 10 |
probantes quid sit beneplacitum Deo : |
Proving what is well pleasing to God: |
| 11 |
et nolite communicare operibus infructuosis tenebrarum, magis autem redarguite. |
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. |
| 12 |
Quæ enim in occulto fiunt ab ipsis, turpe est et dicere. |
For the things that are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of. |
| 13 |
Omnia autem, quæ arguuntur, a lumine manifestantur : omne enim, quod manifestatur, lumen est. |
But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light; for all that is made manifest is light. |
| 14 |
Propter quod dicit : Surge qui dormis, et exsurge a mortuis, et illuminabit te Christus. |
Wherefore he saith: Rise thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee. |
| 15 |
Videte itaque, fratres, quomodo caute ambuletis : non quasi insipientes, |
See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise, |
| 16 |
sed ut sapientes : redimentes tempus, quoniam dies mali sunt. |
But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. |
| 17 |
Propterea nolite fieri imprudentes, sed intelligentes quæ sit voluntas Dei. |
Wherefore become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God. |
| 18 |
Et nolite inebriari vino, in quo est luxuria, sed implemini Spiritu Sancto, |
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury; but be ye filled with the holy Spirit, |
| 19 |
loquentes vobismetipsis in psalmis, et hymnis, et canticis spiritualibus, cantantes et psallentes in cordibus vestris Domino, |
Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord; |
| 20 |
gratias agentes semper pro omnibus in nomine Domini nostri Jesu Christi Deo et Patri, |
Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father: |
| 21 |
subjecti invicem in timore Christi. |
Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ. |
| 22 |
Mulieres viris suis subditæ sint, sicut Domino : |
Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: |
| 23 |
quoniam vir caput est mulieris, sicut Christus caput est Ecclesiæ : ipse, salvator corporis ejus. |
Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. |
| 24 |
Sed sicut Ecclesia subjecta est Christo, ita et mulieres viris suis in omnibus. |
Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. |

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it: |

ut illam sanctificaret, mundans lavacro aquæ in verbo vitæ, |
That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: |

ut exhiberet ipse sibi gloriosam Ecclesiam, non habentem maculam, aut rugam, aut aliquid hujusmodi, sed ut sit sancta et immaculata. |
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish. |

Ita et viri debent diligere uxores suas ut corpora sua. Qui suam uxorem diligit, seipsum diligit. |
So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. |

Nemo enim umquam carnem suam odio habuit : sed nutrit et fovet eam, sicut et Christus Ecclesiam : |
For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church: |

quia membra sumus corporis ejus, de carne ejus et de ossibus ejus. |
Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. |

Propter hoc relinquet homo patrem et matrem suam, et adhærebit uxori suæ, et erunt duo in carne una. |
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. |

Sacramentum hoc magnum est, ego autem dico in Christo et in Ecclesia. |
This is a great sacrament; but I speak in Christ and in the church. |

Verumtamen et vos singuli, unusquisque uxorem suam sicut seipsum diligat : uxor autem timeat virum suum. |
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular love his wife as himself: and let the wife fear her husband. |

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is just. |

Honora patrem tuum, et matrem tuam, quod est mandatum primum in promissione : |
Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with a promise: |

ut bene sit tibi, et sis longævus super terram. |
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest be long lived upon earth. |

Et vos patres, nolite ad iracundiam provocare filios vestros : sed educate illos in disciplina et correptione Domini. |
And you, fathers, provoke not your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and correction of the Lord. |

Servi, obedite dominis carnalibus cum timore et tremore, in simplicitate cordis vestri, sicut Christo : |
Servants, be obedient to them that are your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ: |

non ad oculum servientes, quasi hominibus placentes, sed ut servi Christi, facientes voluntatem Dei ex animo, |
Not serving to the eye, as it were pleasing men, but, as the servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart, |

cum bona voluntate servientes, sicut Domino, et non hominibus : |
With a good will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men. |
| 8 |
scientes quoniam unusquisque quodcumque fecerit bonum, hoc recipiet a Domino, sive servus, sive liber. |
Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man shall do, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond, or free. |

Et vos domini, eadem facite illis, remittentes minas : scientes quia et illorum et vester Dominus est in cælis : et personarum acceptio non est apud eum. |
And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatenings, knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven; and there is no respect of persons with him. |

De cetero, fratres, confortamini in Domino, et in potentia virtutis ejus. |
Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord, and in the might of his power. |

Induite vos armaturam Dei, ut possitis stare adversus insidias diaboli : |
Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. |

quoniam non est nobis colluctatio adversus carnem et sanguinem, sed adversus principes, et potestates, adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, contra spiritualia nequitiæ, in cælestibus. |
For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. |

Propterea accipite armaturam Dei, ut possitis resistere in die malo, et in omnibus perfeci stare. |
Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect. |

State ergo succincti lumbos vestros in veritate, et induti loricam justitiæ, |
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, |
| 15 |
et calceati pedes in præparatione Evangelii pacis, |
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: |

in omnibus sumentes scutum fidei, in quo possitis omnia tela nequissimi ignea extinguere : |
In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. |

et galeam salutis assumite, et gladium spiritus (quod est verbum Dei), |
And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). |

per omnem orationem et obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in spiritu : et in ipso vigilantes in omni instantia et obsecratione pro omnibus sanctis : |
By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit; and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints: |

et pro me, ut detur mihi sermo in apertione oris mei cum fiducia, notum facere mysterium Evangelii : |
And for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel. |

pro quo legatione fungor in catena, ita ut in ipso audeam, prout oportet me loqui. |
For which I am an ambassador in a chain, so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought. |

Ut autem et vos sciatis quæ circa me sunt, quid agam, omnia vobis nota faciet Tychicus, carissimus frater, et fidelis minister in Domino : |
But that you also may know the things that concern me, and what I am doing, Tychicus, my dearest brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things: |

quem misi ad vos in hoc ipsum, ut cognoscatis quæ circa nos sunt, et consoletur corda vestra. |
Whom I have sent to you for this same purpose, that you may know the things concerning us, and that he may comfort your hearts. |

Pax fratribus, et caritas cum fide a Deo Patre et Domino Jesu Christo. |
Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. |

Gratia cum omnibus qui diligunt Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum in incorruptione. Amen. |
Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. Amen. |
